The sudden or rapid growth of the body causes stretching of the layer of skin, which disrupts the structure of the collagen and elastin fibers and results in the forming of scars on the skin i.e., stretch marks. Stretch marks usually occur in areas that contain excess fat such as breasts, thighs, upper arms, abdomen, and buttocks. Stretch marks are a cosmetic problem that does not cause any health risk. Different factors that cause stretch marks include hormonal changes during pregnancy, puberty, nutrition deficiency, rapid weight changes or obesity, growth spurts in teenagers, and many more.
